Overview of Mission 2020

Preamble:

Mission 2020 is a programme of evangelism and church growth embarked on by the Jamaica Baptist Union from 2010 to 2020. The aim of the programme is to reach 40,000 new persons, bring them into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ and disciple them to serve Christ in the world through the membership in a Jamaica Baptist Union-affiliated local church. The programme is designed to cater for a maturing spirituality among members and church communities and lead individual Christians to practice lifestyle evangelism for ten (10) years. The programme will also give special attention to mission causes with the aim of bringing them up to church status. An adventurous part of this programme is the planting of new churches. The programme will seek to implement the relevant areas of the existing Jamaica Baptist Union Mission Plan. At every step of the programme the denomination’s membership will be encouraged to practice the discipline of prayer and to deepen its awareness and consciousness of the Holy Spirit.

Objectives:

1. To mobilize the local congregation to approach ministry with a focus on evangelism.

2. To design and implement strategies with the view to create numerical church growth by carrying out the mandate of the great commission.

3. To educate and create exposure for members in personal Evangelism.

4. To prepare a number of persons who to be trainers within the local congregation.

5. To plan and implement a series of local church, circuit and association opportunities for: members’ enrichment, training in personal evangelism, opportunities for the presentation of the gospel using both traditional and emerging methods.
